600 words of very dense description of Val's immediate attraction to Vox. If anyone tells you that you need a lot of words to get a concept across, show them this fic to prove them otherwise.
The prose in this is so good! The description of Val's mind going the instant he saw Vox's screen and the somewhat nebulous "goal" he is chasing to get there? He's in charge of this place, knows what that light has done to him, but doesn't care what it takes in order to be allowed closer to it. And knowing he has to perform to get as close as he wants, rather than trying in any other way to get Vox's attention first?
Especially as the summary tells the reader that Vox is here to talk business, but Val's immediate reaction is that Vox is here to get laid and, fuck it all, Vox isn't about to ask for anyone else in the establishment if Val has anything to say about it. Cash around him, but money (power) is no longer the point. An immediate obsession.
